Chadeish Yameinu is an egalitarian Jewish Renewal Chavurah located in Santa Cruz, CA. We seek spirit in community, and community in spirit. We enjoy participatory davennen, Torah study, chanting, singing, dancing, and Bibliodrama. We experiment with form, content, and leadership in our spiritual quests.  All of our worship services are free and open to anyone. We invite to you to come to a Shabbat or other event and become acquainted with our community. Our Shabbat and Holiday services are led by Rabbi Eli Cohen and our lay leaders. Reb Eli received smicha (rabbinic ordination) from the ALEPH--Alliance for Jewish Renewal smicha program and has been a community leader and teacher in Santa Cruz for many years. Wednesday night is our Adult Education night, with classes taught by Reb Eli and occasional guest teachers. Our class topics include Ethics, Monthly holidays/rituals, Judaism 101 (with an emphasis on spirituality), Kabbalah and Meditation. We remain committed to the grassroots and egalitarian nature of our chavurah and want our lay leadership to continue and expand. We are also forming action groups in areas such as Shabbat and holiday services, adult education, children’s programming, social action, lifecycle rituals, welcoming and fundraising. They are open to anyone who wants to participate in shaping Chadeish Yameinu’s future.

Chadeish Yameinu:

Action Groups

Social Action: The Social Action Group queries CY members to determine those issues that are of greatest common concern, recommends areas that seem to best represent the interests of CY, and then supports organization of selected (usually long term) actions. SAG is also supports CY members in shorter-term actions, that are consistent with CY values, that such members want to organize. Adult Education: The Adult Education Action Group participates in planning and implementing the weekly classes taught by Reb Eli, as well as facilitating occasional day-long shabbatons on a special Jewish theme. We meet once a month with Reb Eli to set priorities, review feedback and brainstorm ideas.   Shabbat: The Shabbat Action Group plans the logistics of Shabbat services (ie. arranges places and leaders) and works with Reb Eli and lay leaders to guide the direction and innovations in Shabbat services. CY Community School: The Community School creates opportunities for families to participate in Chadeish Yameinu events, provides parallel experiences for children to learn about Judaism in a way that challenges and enriches them, and teaches children that their cultural heritage is a joyful one.   Membership: Please see the membership page for information on becoming a member of CY.
